Collingwood Park State School has inclusion teachers who are supported by teacher aides in the classrooms.

Teamwork and communication are key elements to Inclusion. Our aim is to try to leave a positive constructive footprint where we have been. An essential element of team work is supporting each other and the students.

We support students who have been verified with:

  • Intellectual Impairment

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Aspergers)

  • Speech Language Impairment

With support from Advisory Visiting Teachers we also support students who are diagnosed with:

  • Hearing Impairment

  • Physical Impairment

This support includes reviewing an Individual Education Plan twice a year for each student with the class teacher/s, parents/carers and other stake holders (Speech language pathologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist). Goals are set which reflect the students’ needs academically, emotionally and socially.

Support may also include

  • working with small groups
  • working with individual students in class
  • resource provision and modification
  • withdrawal of student/s to do individual and small group work where appropriate

Our role also involves:

  • Consulting and assisting class teachers in planning units and programs to meet the needs of all students.

  • Consulting and assisting class teachers in modifying class resources to meet identified needs.

  • Assisting with modifications to assessment items to allow greater student access, whilst maintaining assessment integrity.

  • Developing Behaviour Management Plans with a particular focus on development of a positive climate which contributes to pro-active behaviour management, such as, being organized, being on time, completing work.

  • Supporting each team member in behaviour management within classes and playground

Specific programs are provided to support functional literacy, numeracy and social skills.

This support is provided in a variety of ways which include:

  • Life skills program (cooking a variety of healthy snacks and meals)

  • Social Skills program which addresses individual needs.
