Meet Kylie Osodu - Chaplain and Youth Worker at Collingwood Park State School
What is a Chaplain?
The Department of Education explains Chaplaincy in this way:
Chaplains provide social, emotional and spiritual support to students, parents and staff. This includes assisting students to develop skills that support learning, positive behaviour and constructive social relationships, assisting with classroom activities, participating in general school activities and enhancing the links between the school and its community to support students.
What does that look like at school?
The day of a Chaplain can consist of supporting Teachers in the classroom, checking in with students individually, facilitating programs, liaising with local organisations to help support the students and families in the school community, to playing giant noughts and crosses with students at lunchtime to making breakfast for students. It is diverse and a job Kylie thoroughly enjoys.
What is a Youth Worker?
How the Department of Education explains what a Youth Worker does:
The Youth Worker will liaise between students, parents/carers and school staff in regards to educational needs, wellbeing needs or behaviour challenges. The Youth worker works in partnership with other key members of our wellbeing team to ensure our students and their family feel supported.
What does a Youth Worker do within the school:
The Youth worker supports our students to be ready to learn each day whether that be through individual wellbeing support, skill building, targeted programs or resourcing. They also work with our parent and carers to ensure they are supported by offering wellbeing support and by assisting them to link with external partner agencies who offer specialised targeted support.

How Kylie explains what a Chaplain does: "I walk alongside of, support and encourage staff, students and families in their ups and downs of school life".
